It can be said that the intensive introduction of relevant policies at the national macro level and the meso level of the industry provides a good external policy environment for the industrial wastewater treatment industry. The aforementioned policy measures to strictly control discharge, strengthen supervision, and increase penalties have begun to revitalize the long-lost industrial wastewater treatment market, which is mainly distributed in the fields of petrochemicals, power, papermaking, metallurgy and textiles. Prior to this, the state disclosed as many as 42 industrial industries, of which more than 30 industrial industries had a wastewater scale of less than 5% of the total, and the industry pattern was naturally dispersed.


Because there are many types of industrial wastewater and the treatment process is relatively complicated, the current market scale of China's industrial wastewater treatment industry is mainly composed of industrial wastewater treatment and operation services and industrial wastewater engineering investment. From the perspective of subdivided industries, the annual market scale of industrial wastewater treatment and operation services for ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industries, chemical raw materials and chemical product manufacturing industries has reached more than 10 billion yuan. Domestic brokerages predict that by 2020, the market size of China's industrial wastewater treatment industry will reach 375.8 billion yuan.


The industry generally believes that there is limited room for growth in the engineering construction market, while the scale of the third-party operation market has room to rise. With the acceleration of the trend of "retreating from the city and entering the park", the future environmental protection companies will expand the business of third-party treatment of industrial wastewater in the industrial parks and some independent large-scale enterprises. At present, many environmental protection enterprises are actively negotiating the third-party operation mode with some leading industrial enterprises with large scale, large volume and good payment ability.


The market is undoubtedly attractive, but entry is not so easy. Different industries produce different types of wastewater. If similar industries use different production processes, the nature of wastewater is also different. The situation of industrial wastewater is different. What is needed is a contest of comprehensive capabilities including capital, planning, technology, and management. It is difficult to achieve the desired effect with a single technology. Therefore, industrial wastewater treatment enterprises need to conduct integrated research in a cross-over, complementary, and collaborative manner through the application of comprehensive water treatment technologies.


But because of the high technical threshold, whoever has mastered the core technology will have a place. Most of the enterprises in the industry are focused on one or more of the system equipment due to the limitations of technical reserves or their professional positioning. According to preliminary statistics, there are more than 300 sewage treatment enterprises above designated size in China, and these enterprises constitute the main body of supply for the industrial wastewater treatment industry. This provides opportunities for "out-of-circle" companies with strong capital and abundant resources to seize the industrial wastewater treatment market.


With the further improvement of pollution emission standards, it is expected that the market will rise again in three to five years after the standards are upgraded, and the relevant subdivisions such as industrial wastewater treatment will usher in favorable conditions. In terms of technical treatment path, the development of low-phosphorus or non-phosphorus non-nitrogen, biodegradable and multifunctional environmentally friendly water treatment chemicals will become the mainstream research direction of industrial wastewater treatment. In terms of market competition, relying on technology as the core competitiveness and relying on other competitive factors, refinement and specialization in the existing business areas will also become the key key for enterprises to deploy industrial wastewater treatment.
